When they arrived at the miniature golf park, Fallon got out of the SUV first and waited for the others. From the time she sat in the warm bath Warren had drawn for her, until they arrived at the park, she’d tried to piece together the little vision or dream or whatever Warren wanted to call it. It’d been real, she was certain of it. More so than anything else, she could feel him inside of her. Each pump of his hips solidified they had sex, together, yet when she opened her eyes, he sat beside her as did Suān ní.
It’d been odd and arousing.
Warren joined her first then Abraham and Grainger. Since Suān ní believed he should stand guard for the night, he traveled in her shadow, constantly on the lookout. She didn’t blame him. After the information they received from her aunt and uncles, they had to be on alert just in case. Which reminded her, in a few days, they’d be bringing Grainger in as an offering, in hopes of gaining employment. The idea of handing a member of her—their team over to the enemy didn’t sit right with her. An irrational fear swept over her. Or maybe it was rational, all things considered.
“I meant to ask earlier,” she said as they stepped into line. “Any word on my brother?”
“None,” Grainger said. “Not surprising though. I doubt we’ll see him until we least expect it.”
“Maybe.” It was Lyle though. Of all of her siblings, her eldest brother had been the most protective. Finding out Lu died, well, if it almost broke her, it would tear Lyle to shreds. “Can he be brought back from being feral?”
“I guess we won’t know until we find him,” Abraham murmured. “There is a chance he’ll turn this into a suicide mission.”
Fallon jerked. Suicide? Her brother wouldn’t be that stupid, would he? No. Lyle for all of his flaws didn’t have a death fetish. He might have gone feral but, it was to be expected. Killing himself didn’t bring Lu back. Killing himself, left Fallon and Ji alone. How could he leave them after everything they’d been through?
“Good going,” Warren muttered, elbowing Abraham. “I don’t think he’ll do it. Kill himself. He’s a good agent in a shit situation.”
“He’s an unknown variable,” Grainger supplied. “We don’t know what he’ll do or won’t do, which means being on guard.”
“He won’t hurt me.” Lyle was her brother. He’d never do anything to any of them. If anything, he might be a little bit overprotective when it came to her and Ji. “He’s my brother.”
“If he’s feral there’s no clue what he’s capable of.” Grainger stepped to the window to pay for their round of golf.
“He’s right.” Warren handed her the pink club while he took the blue and Abraham grabbed the red. “Sibling bonds are amazing, but feral shifters can’t think straight, let alone understand the difference between family members and prey. Right now, we have to play this safe.”
“Come on guys, we’re supposed to be having fun,” Abraham said, handing Fallon a ball to match her club.
